The club was formed in 1956 when a group of anglers met in the Orange Hall at Darwen town centre. The club was to be named the Darwen Loyal Angling Club.
At first membership was restricted to people residing within the borough of Darwen,with a maximum of 40 anglers.This remained until 1970 when the rules were changed.

The club gained the lease for Hoddlesden reservoir and it started out as a trout water,when the anglers had fished out all of the trout for themselves it was decided to stock a batch of mixed coarse fish, and has remained a coarse fishery ever since.

The match record for Hoddlesden res. is 64lb set by Mr Bob Fielding in the 1980,s and still stands to this day.

In the early 70,s the Loyals leased Pickup Bank Res.which for some unknown reason is called

DoBo res.but because of it's remoteness it was difficult to baliff so after a few years gave it up.

|n 2003 they took on the Jumbles res. near Bolton which is a particular favorite with pike anglers,there is also a good head of roach,bream and perch.

There is no longer a waiting list for membership largely due to the ever increasing number of commercial fisheries, but still manages to survive in the face of competition.

The licence runs from April to April the same as the environment licence.
Membership covers Oggy Res. and Jumbles Res.

FISHING  RULES

1 . TWO RODS MAXIMUM MAY BE USED AT ANY ONE MEMBER at a time from a single fishing station.
2   NO COARSE FISH TO BE TAKEN,
3   NO LIVEBAITING.
4   ALL ANGLERS MUST BE IN POSSESSION OF DISGORGER AND LANDING NET.
5  CARP PELLETS AND PASTE ALLOWED. NO TROUT PELLETS, HALIBUT PELLETS OR HIGH OIL CONTENT PELLETS allowed..
6  NO CLOSED SEASON ON HODDLESDEN RES.  JUMBLES RES. CLOSE SEASON 13th MAY UNTIL 13th JUNE INCLUSIVE.
7.No trout to be retained in keep nets.
8   KEEP NETS MUST CONFORM TO E.A. GUIDE LINES.
9  PLEASE TAKE ALL LITTER HOME.
9  BLOODWORM and JOKER is banned on all Club Waters as hook bait or feed.
10 NO SPINNING ON JUMBLES RES.
11 ANGLERS deliberately in pursuit of large fish ie. Pike or CARP  MUST be in possesion of  LANDING NET AND UNHOOKING MAT and a minimum 15lbs BREAKING STRAIN  LINE is a must.

1.  THE NAME OF THE CLUB SHALL BE THE DARWEN LOYAL ANGLING   CLUB.

2. THE OBJECT OF THE CLUB SHALL BE THE ACQUIRING AND EXERCISING OF THE RIGHTS OF ANGLING ON THE CLUB WATERS.

3. MEMBERSHIP SHALL BE OPEN AND RESTRICTED TO 150 FULLY PAID UP SENIOR MEMBERS.

4. ANY PERSON BREAKING THE RULES OR COMMITTING ANY WILFUL DAMAGE IN ANY OF THE CLUBS LOCALITIES WILL BE DEALT WITH BY THE COMMITTEE WHO ON SATISFACTORY PROOF MAY EXPEL SUCH MISCONDUCTING MEMBERS.
 
5. THE SUBSCRIPTION MEETING TO BE HELD IN APRIL, AND SUBSCRIPTION TO  BE PAID BY 30th APRIL.

 6. PROPOSALS FOR A.G.M. TO BE IN WRITING AND SENT TO THE SECRETARY, 17,PRINCE LEE MEADOWS, DARWEN BB3 2BQ  BY 30th SEPTEMBER , FOR A.G.M. NOT LATER THAN OCTOBER 31st.

 7. ENTRANCE AND SUBSCRIPTION TO BE DECIDED AT THE A.G.M.

 8. THE OFFICERS OF THE CLUB SHALL CONSIST OF THE President. SECRETARY AND TREASURER TOGETHER WITH A COMMITTEE OF ELECTED MEMBERS. .ALL THE OFFICERS SHALL BE EX-OFFICIO MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE.

 9.  THE OFFICERS SHALL BE ELECTED AT EACH A.G.M.    COMMITTEE MEMBERS SHALL BE ELECTED TO SERVE FOR A PERIOD OF THREE YEARS.. IN ANY OF THE APPOINTMENTS THE COMMITTEE WILL BE EMPOWERED TO FILL ANY VACANCY.  THE  PERSON appointed shall HOLD OFFICE UNTIL THE NEXT A.G.M.

 10. IT SHALL BE THE DUTY OF THE COMMITTEE TO CONDUCT THE BUSINESS OF THE CLUB.

 11. A QUORUM OF FIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS ( EXCLUDING SECRETARY AND TREASURER ) SHALL BE DEEMED SUFFICIENT TO CONDUCT THE AFFAIRS OF THAT MEETING.

 12. A SPECIAL MEETING MAY BE CALLED AT ANY TIME ON WRITTEN REQUEST TO THE CLUB SECRETARY BY FIVE OR MORE  MEMBERS.

 13. JUNIORS UNDER THE AGE OF 10 ARE ALLOWED IF ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT.  OVER THE AGE OF 10 THEY MUST BE  ACCOMPANIED BY EITHER A PARENT OR A CONSENTING ADULT MEMBER. THEY MUST ALSO FISH WITHIN REASONABLE DISTANCE OF THE PARENT OR ADULT MEMBER.  JUNIORS MAY ALSO FISH MATCHES WITHOUT THE PARENT BEING PRESENT FOR THE DURATION OF THE MATCH ONLY.

 14. AN ENVIRONMENT AGENCY LICENCE IS REQUIRED.  ANY JUNIOR MEMBER HOLDING A CURRENT E.A. JUNIOR LICENCE  WILL BE ENTITLED TO BE A JUNIOR MEMBER OF D.L.A.C.

 15. ANY RULES SUBJECT TO ALTERATION CAN BE DONE AT THE A.G.M. BY THE BODY OF THE A.G.M if the meeting deem it necessary

 16. MEMBERS over 65 YEARS OF AGE with 5 years membership shall become honorary members.

 17. No guns allowed on club localities. NO CAMPING OR FIRES..

 18. All members .fishing on Club Waters will be held responsible for all litter surrounding their pegs regardless of whether it is their own or left by someone else.

 19. No night fishing on any Club Waters.  FISHING is FROM DAWN UNTIL DUSK.

Club Events and Matches

MATCH  RULES

1 . Pike will not count in all matches
2. No spinning
3. One rod, two hooks, hooks must be 30cm apart (other rods may be assembled and ready for use).
4. No ground baiting before the whistle.
5. No wading during matches.
6. Keep nets only may be put into the water before the whistle.
7. All pegs to be left free until after the draw.
